June 21st
Denny 18th and Darrell 7th Arik makes his first start.
Saturday started out to be a very cloudy day with a few sprinkles that threatened the nights racing. But as time grew closer to race time the clouds broke apart and the sun come thru giving all of us a chance to race.
When the racing began Arik was slated to be on the pole for the first heat, in his Dad’s own car the #12, which earlier had started to have transmission trouble. He did elect to start to the rear of the field and when the green flag come out he was able to make 1 lap before an electrical problem come up and shut the car down.
Darrell Proceeded to go out in the 2nd heat race and start on the outside of the first row. When the Green flag dropped he come out of 4 with the lead and held it for 1 lap before succumbing to the faster cars that started in the back. Buy the time the race finished he would end up 6th.
Denny started in the back of the 3rd heat and bounced forward immediately when the green flag come out. He would end up finishing in the 4th position after having trouble passing the 626 of Brandon Oliver.
In the “A” main Denny was slated to start in the 20th position. It took 5 restarts to get things going in that feature. Denny once the green flag dropped worked his way up to the 10th position until a yellow come out and he lost a left front axel seal and started pushing a bit of oil onto the exhaust causing an enormous amount of smoke that would end up going away after 2 – 3 laps under green flag conditions. As they raced he would work his way up further to the 7th spot then another caution come out. On the restart after that caution he would get black flagged for jumping the start of the race. At that time the caution would come out again for a restart and Denny was sent to the back of the pack. But Denny just pulled it in due to all the smoke that he would have on every restart.
Darrell and Arik were to start in the “B” feature that next race. Darrell Started 4th on the outside of the 2nd row and Arik elected to start in the back. Before the green flag dropped Arik pulled the #12 in due to the same electrical problem that he had earlier in the night. There was an accident at the start of the race on the front stretch involving Darrell and the #4 car driven by Rom Myers, which Myers was unable to continue and carried off on the hook. On the next start Darrell was hit for jumping the start and the caution fell again for a complete restart. By the 4th restart, the race went green for 5 laps before the caution was waved for an accident that happened in turn 4. On the restart Darrell was in the 4th spot and started running side by side with the #11 of Brian Greggerson with the 3rd spot right in front of them Brian and Darrell proceeded to go into turn 1 putting the #7 of Terry Lange 3 wide With Darrell taking the spot. By the 13th lap he has caught the 2nd place car and passed him along the front stretch to take that position. On the same lap he come up on slower traffic that was running in the top grove, so Darrell went low to pass them and the 7D turned left to pull into the pits, all Darrell could do is spin to avoid hitting him and causing another caution, but the green flag stayed out because He was able to keep moving and went from the 2nd position to the 7th position. That would be where Darrell finished in an exciting finish to the main events.
